Palfinger FLC - Unrivalled Drive Performance

For the FLC series of truck mounted forklifts, the engineers at Palfinger were challenged to produce market leading drive performance. 

Furthermore, the challenge was to achieve this performance using a Stage V sub 19kw engine, thereby avoiding the requirement of a DPF filter, thus avoiding the associated DPF cost (upfront and lifetime) and operation challenges of Regeneration. Using a sub 19kw engine also brings the benefit of better fuel economy and lower deadweight compared to the larger engines.

The Palfinger engineers first identified an engine that was designed specifically for the Stage V sub 19kw application providing high levels of torque.  But the engine is only part of the solution, to achieve high performance, a transmission system had to be designed to translate high performance at the engine, to high performance at the wheels and functions. So the engineers designed a system working closely with the pump and wheel motor manufacturer, matching the engine perfectly to a new drive system that is really market leading. 

The theory, bench testing and performance figures are always exciting but the real test is working in the real world, can the new FLC drive performance live up to expectation?
